This is a group of amateurs sharing knowledge where all are invited to contribute to our shared experience. Most of our meetings take the form of a visit to a site of interest for wildlife, usually within a short distance of Stourbridge. Occasionally we have indoor meetings to share wildlife experiences (for example when a member has been to visit somewhere special - The Galapagos Islands and the Masai Mara have featured).
Recent meetings have been to Fens Pool, a reservoir for the canal system and a local nature reserve; then to Highgate Common; Bunkers Hill Wood and Baggeridge Country Park.
The meeting day and time has now changed and we meet on the 4th Monday of each month at 10 a.m.
Following our October visit to Saltwells Nature Reserve, where we had pleasant weather and lovely autumn colour, our final meeting of 2025 was a visit to Wolverhampton Museum and Art Gallery to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition.
The January meeting was a circuit of the lake in Mary Stevens Park, where we enjoyed watching the usual mix of ducks, geese, moorhens, coots and cormorants and admired the snowdrops.
In 23 March we did the circular walk around Fens Pool. It was delightful with the goat willow catkins and blackthorn blossom abundant and beautiful. We also noted the peace - the only sound being birdsong - remarkable for a site in the centre of housing/industry/roads.
Our next meeting is Monday, 27 April when we will be exploring Wren's Nest nature reserve. This is an area of national importance in terms of its geology and there should be plenty of wildlife sightings of interest
