Welcome to the Astronomy group. We are a small but very friendly group so come and join us.
Your group leader is Yvonne Smith who can be contacted by telephone via the membership secretary.
Yvonne is currently not on the internet and does not have email, therefore please direct your email enquiries regarding the group to: Tess Wagstaff who can be contacted by email by clicking on the Contact link at the top of the page.
We are now meeting at the Oakfield centre at 10am on the second Monday of the month
Over the last few months we have looked at the earth's magnetic field and the Sun.
As the sun now is at maximum activity with sunspots and flares and coronal mass ejections in its 11 year cycle its was very interesting to understand what is happening and how it happens especially as the Northern Lights have been visible further south than usual this year.
If you are new to Astronomy and join us then we are keen to go back over things we may have already looked at or things that you may have a particular interest in.
Now is also the time to look out for noctilucent clouds at just after sunset or just before sunrise.
These are high altitude clouds that appear to glow or shine in the night sky
Both the below photos were taken by Nick, one of the group,
